FYI: I was running a chkdsk when yous replied - no error from that - also, I am the merely user on my computer - simply for what ever reason when things stop working I CTRL-ALT-DEL and job choose switch user and I am practiced for awhile
I am anxious to try your directions.

i performed all the steps properly - did not fix
still locking - not allowing me to click - the mouse moves fine
so i practise a CTRL-ALT-DEL and select switch user - even though there is no other user but me.
performing this activeness allows me to go for awhile
so locks again
