How To Clean 24k Gold Plated Jewelry

Soft bristled brushes, like those for toddlers or sensitive teeth are best to avoid accidentally scratching the gold surface. Here's how to give your gold accessories the right kind of cleaning.

Materials

Clean soft-bristled toothbrush
Mild dish soap
Bowl
Water
Microfiber cloth

Prep a cleaning bath

Fill a bowl with four cups of lukewarm water. Add a teaspoon of mild soap, mixing until the surface lathers. Drop your gold pieces in the bowl. Let the gold soak for one hour. Once the gold has sat in the cleaning bath for an hour, remove the gold pieces and inspect for any tougher, tarnished areas.

Buff out imperfections

With the pieces still submerged in the soap and water bath, using a soft bristled toothbrush gently brush the surface of the gold, being careful not to press down too hard. Once the noticeable tarnish is removed, stop brushing! The higher the percentage of gold in your piece the easier it with ding and scratch.

Rinse the gold pieces in clean water until the soap has been removed. Buff and dry your gold pieces with a microfiber cloth until they shine.
